It all started when…

WAD took root with founder Maha Milki after deciding to implement her years of experience as a coordinator for women’s projects in the Middle East into helping her community in Lebanon. She saw the need for awareness about issues pertaining to gender and peacebuilding. She began inviting friends to gather and discuss plans to involve women who could benefit from talks around such topics.

Ever since its inception, WAD has actively cooperated with a number of women’s NGOs, with church related and non-Christian organizations and municipalities, depending on the type of activity and/or project it undertakes in the various regions in Lebanon. WAD, being an organization that tries to build bridges between communities, encourages these organizations to participate and to be actively involved in its activities. An example of this cooperation is the Peace Building project carried out over 3 years, bringing together over 500 women of all denomination and religious backgrounds in 9 Lebanese regions, to promote understanding of the “other”, collaboration and reconciliation.

All of our our workshop and activities have the following common objectives:

  1. Empowerment of Women: empowering women by providing them with education, vocational training, and resources to improve their economic opportunities and social standing.

  2. Gender Equality Advocacy: Advocating for gender equality and work to eliminate discrimination and violence against women.

  3. Psychosocial Initiatives: Running psychosocial support lectures and workshops focusing on mothers’ issues, including stress management, self-care and parental guidance.

  4. Education and Awareness: Conducting educational workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns to educate women and communities about their rights, health, and gender-related issues.

  5. Economic Development: Implementing projects aimed at fostering women's economic independence, such as microfinance programs, entrepreneurship training, and support for women-led businesses.

  6. Community Development: Engaging in children’s development projects that helps them with facing their internal struggles and daily stressors stressors at home, at school and with their peers.
