Who We Are

WAD (Women in Action for Development) is a Lebanese non-governmental organization dedicated to social change. We work for the development of an equal community based on gender-balanced policies that provide equal rights and opportunities to all members of society, without discrimination. At WAD, we predominantly work with women in all regions of Lebanon, irrespective of religion or social background.

We support women empowerment and gender justice to create meaningful change that will last beyond our lifetimes.

Recent activities

On May 15 and 20, 2024, WAD organised an invigorating stress-relief session conducted by Dr. Lina Riachy, where we have explored relaxation techniques through music to manage the stressors we encounter in everyday life.

Our Latest Project

WAD offers support to children and mothers facing psychological hardship. Children participate in art therapy, music therapy and drama therapy, while their mothers attend psychological support group therapy.

A happy and healthy community is in our hands. All we need is each other.
— Mrs. Maha Milki, Founder and President

Mrs. Milki wanted the workshops to reach anyone who wanted to be involved. With the members of WAD, she began developing themes and topics for future activities. WAD spread across Lebanon to reach all regions and the team was invited to help start other community projects.

Our Mission

Lebanon is a small country characterised by the merging of several subcultures into one culture and community. The country laws and cultural rules do not protect everyone equally and many are not aware of the extent of the impact of these laws on people’s lives. To work with this diversity, WAD seeks to nourish our society at the most fundamental level with healthy discussions and a strong support network. All participants get an equal opportunity to assist in the seminars and workshops held across the country.
